See It In Action

A short walkthrough of the completed interactive Human Target experience.

Overview

For FOX's Human Target, the creative concept called for something more engaging than a traditional animated banner: an interactive shooting-range experience that users could actually play inside the ad.

The Challenge

The initial idea described the experience creatively, not technically. My job was to turn that concept into a set of behaviors and rules that could function reliably inside a rich-media advertising environment.

My Role

As Creative Developer working with Fox Broadcasting through Eyewonder, I translated the concept into the interaction model, gameplay logic, animation behavior, and production implementation.

How I Broke the Problem Down

  1. Make the mouse behave as an on-screen targeting crosshair.
  2. Animate multiple silhouette targets moving forward and backward at different times.
  3. Detect shots and determine whether a target was hit.
  4. Assign different point values and maintain a running score.
  5. Track ammunition and require the player to reload after a set number of shots.
  6. Coordinate timing, animation, interaction states, and game resets.
  7. Package the experience within the technical constraints of a production advertising unit.

Rather than treating the project as one large programming problem, I solved each interaction as a smaller system and then connected those systems into the final experience.

Result

The completed unit turned a conventional advertising placement into a playable branded experience for Human Target. The work received a Promax Bronze Award.
